Brooks Rehabilitation Offers Solution to Avoid Loss of Skilled Nursing Beds

Brooks Rehabilitation has entered into an agreement with the current Glenwood Nursing Center licensee for a change of ownership.   In 2010, the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) initiated legal action against Glenwood Nursing Center located in the Arlington area of Jacksonville.  Rather than allowing the Jacksonville community to lose the 119 licensed skilled nursing beds, Brooks Rehabilitation and the Glenwood licensee came to an agreement that will keep the skilled nursing beds in this region. The agreement was approved by AHCA.

After the current Glenwood owner completes the closure of the facility with supervision from AHCA, Brooks will complete the change of ownership.  Brooks will then begin planning and development for a new, state-of-the-art skilled nursing facility that will reflect Brooks’ high quality care and commitment to their patients.  Possible locations for the new facility have not yet been discussed at this early stage.

“We are excited about the possibility of bringing high quality skilled nursing care to residents in Jacksonville.  We will continue to work with AHCA in the coming weeks to ensure this much needed healthcare service remains available to the patients and community we serve,” said Doug Baer, President and CEO of Brooks Rehabilitation.

In June, 2010 Brooks Rehabilitation purchased San Marco Terrace Rehabilitation and Care, a 68-bed skilled nursing facility located in the heart of St. Augustine.  Brooks also manages the 19-bed Total Joint Rehabilitation skilled nursing unit at St. Luke’s Hospital.   Both San Marco Terrace and the St. Luke’s skilled nursing unit earned a Five-Star quality rating by the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and were recently listed as Top Ten Best Nursing Homes in the State of Florida by US News and World Report, a reflection of the outstanding care provided by the staff at both facilities.
