JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --Rain is moving in now and it will rain again this afternoon.  very isolated areas with small hail and
gusty winds 60% high 86.  More showers Thursday  with only
20% chances for the weekend..

Increasing northeast winds will modify the afternoon heat by the weekend.

 

 

September Marks Historical Peak of Hurricane Season

September 10th marked the annual historical peak of the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season and Florida Division of Emergency Management officials urge residents and visitors to stay prepared. As this year’s season has already been very active, Division officials caution residents that the 2011 season runs through November 30th and several more tropical developments are still possible. To date, the National Hurricane Center has identified twelve named tropical storms, two of which have reached hurricane status.

Tropical Depression forms in Gulf of Mexico; Warnings for U.S. Coast

MIAMI - A new tropical depression has just formed in the Gulf of Mexico. Tropical Storm warnings are now up for the U.S. coast from Mississippi to Texas. The storm may also impact Florida.

Hurricane Irene: East Coast States Prepare for Impact

Hurricane Irene: Here is a state-by-state glance on how Hurricane Irene is predicted to strike states all along the Eastern Seaboard as of Friday evening: 

CONNECTICUT

- Forecasters predict Irene to make landfall on Sunday somewhere between New Jersey and Cape Cod. Forecasts placed the storm's track through central parts of Connecticut.

- Hurricane warning has been issued for coastal Connecticut.

- Mandatory evacuations have not been ordered.

- Last hurricane to hit was Bob in 1991.

- Officials warned Irene was likely to cause prolonged power outages and flooding in low-lying areas along the shoreline.

- Governor urged anyone living in areas that have flooded in the past to seek shelter elsewhere.
