JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- City Council Don Redman called resident Pete Hull a "miserable individual" in an email exchange this month.

Our Florida Times-Union news partner obtained a copy of the email exchange between Redman and Hull.

READ THE EMAIL EXCHANGE BETWEEN REDMAN AND HULL

The e-mail, reads in part: "You sound like a misguided & miserable indivdule (spelling error retained from email) who needs our prayers," the city councilman wrote.

Council goes on to write, "I pray that god will speak to your heart & show you the truthes (spelling error retained from email) of his word."

Hull told the Times-Union he was shocked by the comments. He had written Councilman Redman to express his view that council members should be ashamed of voting against expanding Jacksonville's anti-discrimination policies to cover gays and lesbians.

Redman told the Times-Union he was "probably a little short with him in my response."
