Active meth lab found in James Island home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One man is under arrest for allegedly operating a meth lab in a gated community called James Island.

Charles Bickerton, 40, is in jail, charged with possessing methamphetamine with intent to sell and possessing a listed chemical with intent to unlawfully manufacture a controlled substance.

The upscale neighborhood located south of Town Center with half million dollar homes was the scene of law enforcement and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department hazardous material teams.

"They are able to say it is definitely a meth lab," said JSO Lt. Jimmy Judge, who said police first responded to a disturbance call from a woman living in the 7800 block of Turnstone Circle West.

Judge says nearby homes had to be evacuated while hazmat teams went inside the suspected meth house.

Police say three were living in the home that has been tagged as now being off limits.

Bickerton was released from St. Johns Country earlier Tuesday, on charges relating to controlled substances.
