Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure - October 23, 2010

It's nearly time for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure!  It will be held on Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 at a new site-- the Jacksonville Fairgrounds.  (510 Fairgrounds Pl., Jacksonville, FL 32202)

You can register online until October 17th, and you can register at any 1st Place Sports location until October 16th.  After that, you may register at the AT&T Health & Fitness Expo October 21st-22nd, or register on Race Day.  All registered participants will receive a free event shirt!

Upcoming Duval County School District Fall Festivals List

To help promote family and community involvement, the following DCPS' elementary schools will be hosting Fall Festivals.

Friday, October 15, 2010
Jacksonville Heights Elementary, 4 to 7 p.m., 7750 Tempest St. S., Jacksonville, FL 32244, 904-573-1120.  Proceeds will benefit the Safety Patrol.

West Riverside Elementary, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., 2801 Herschel St., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Fun for the whole family, featuring games, food, prizes and a silent auction. All activities require tickets that can be purchased from the school's front office.

Seabreeze Elementary, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., 1400 Seabreeze Ave., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. "Howl's & Haystacks" event with obstacle courses, huge slides, carnival foods and games, face painting, classroom booths and more! Bring your family, friends & neighbors… and come in costume, if you dare!

Jax India Fest on October 16, 2010 from 3PM to 11PM at the Metropolitan Park

Jax India Fest 2010 is being organized by the Hindu Society of North East Florida along with various Indian organizations of Jacksonville.  Jax India Fest 2010 is on October 16, 2010 from 3PM to 11PM at the Metropolitan Park.  Admission is free and it is open to all. 

Jax India Fest 2010 promises to be a fun filled event.  The event will have fifty-plus booths from a variety of regional Indian organizations and businesses that cater to the local population.  The booths will feature authentic Indian cuisine, traditional Indian dresses, traditional Indian jewelry, and Indian art.  In addition, traditional Indian folk and classical dances will be performed.  The event will culminate in Navratri celebrations, which will include Garba Ras and Dandia-very popular traditional dance in which everyone participates.

City Encourages Participation in "Teal Monday" Events, Offers Free Parking at Select Facilities

Mayor John Peyton has proclaimed Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 as “Teal Monday” in support of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Monday Night Football game against divisional rivals, the Tennessee Titans. To create a fun environment for all to enjoy, the Jaguars and others will host festivities at various locations throughout downtown.
