2011 VPK Kick-Off

Early Learning Coalition of Duval will have the 7th annual Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) Kick-Off on Saturday, Jan. 29, at three locations around Jacksonville- FSCJ (Advanced Tech Center @ the Downtown Campus), Fletcher High School and Ed White High School. Each location will enroll eligible 4-year-olds into Florida’s FREE VPK program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dreams come true… CIRQUE DREAMS ILLUMINATION and The Artist Series have teamed up to offer one lucky dreamer the chance to “Run away with Cirque Dreams” and perform in a feature role when the show performs at the Times Union Center’s Moran Theater February 15-20, 2011.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey train rolls into Jacksonville this Tuesday, January 18. The all-new 141st edition of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, Fully ChargedSM, debuts in Jacksonville next Thursday, January 20th for an eight-performance run. 

The Ringling Bros. animal performers will unload at 6:00 p.m. and walk beginning at 6:30 p.m. (time subject to change).  Animals will unload at the railroad tracks at the Talleyrand Depot near just north of the intersection of Talleyrand and Jessie Street.  The pachyderm parade will travel south on Talleyrand Ave onto Bay Street.  They will continue on Bay Street walking along the south side of EverBank Field until they get to Lafayette Street.  They will then walk along Lafayette Street to Adams Street and to the back of the Arena.

MOSH LEGO® Competition Winners Announced

More than 100 contestants battled it out at the Museum of Science & History’s LEGO Competition held today.  The contestants, which included kindergartners through 9th graders, worked in teams or as individuals to construct original LEGO designs.  The top prize winners included a farmhouse, a moveable bridge and a spaceship.

All law-abiding and loyal citizens are urged to be vigilant and alert to the presence on your coast of the weatherly, fast, and heavily armed Clipper Schooner Lynx. The 122-foot square top sail schooner Lynx will be sailing into Jacksonville for the first time on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 am. Join the flotilla as she fires a salute from her main battery of 6-pounder carronades upon her grand entrance into Jacksonville.  The celebrated War of 1812 privateer square top sail schooner has arrived on the East Coast from Hawai’i & California and is scheduled for a five-year mission along the East Coast of the United States and Canada and will be participating  in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the Star-Spangled Banner.
