The Mobile Dog Heart Health Unit to Provide Free Heart Screenings at St. Johns Town Center on Jan 28

The Mobile Dog Heart Health Tour is heading to Jacksonville for an afternoon of free heart health examinations at the St. Johns Town Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, January 28.  Certified veterinary specialists will perform on-site heart screenings in a soundproof medical unit, as well as educate owners about canine heart disease.

Journalist Juan Williams to Speak at UNF Feb. 24th

Award-winning journalist, political commentator and author Juan Williams will be the featured speaker at the 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Luncheon. He will discuss “Eyes on The Prize: America and The Dream,” which looks at civil rights then and now, historical foundations and contemporary realities.

The scholarship luncheon, presented by the University of North Florida’s Intercultural Center for PEACE, will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the University Center Banquet Hall on the UNF campus. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Country Star James Wesley Takes the Whisky River Stage Next Week

Country music fans in Jacksonville have more than just the George Straight concert to look forward to next week. Whisky River is gearing up for the Country Music Hall of Famer’s show by hosting the Official George Strait Warm-up Party headlined by James Wesley on Thursday night, January 27.

Wesley scored two songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2010 – “Jackson Hole,” which peaked at No. 41, and “Real,” which reached No. 25 on the chart. Both singles will be on Real, Wesley’s first album on Broken Bow Records, which is slated for a March release. Previously Wesley was signed to Warner Bros. Records and released an album as James Prosser entitled Life Goes On in 1999.

February is American Heart Month and BlackFinn is raising heart health awareness with its Go Red Happy Hour benefiting the American Heart Association (AHA) on Friday, February 4, from 5 – 8 p.m.

The BlackFinn Go Red Happy Hour will feature a special heart-healthy menu with items such as Lime Glazed Salmon, Roasted Vegetable Pasta and Pomegranate Glazed Chicken as well as specialty PAMA-tinis, red win features and complimentary passed hors d’oeuvres. Suggested $5 donations will be collected at the Saloon door for the American Heart Association and a portion of the sales from BlackFinn’s special heart-healthy menu will also benefit the AHA. In addition, anyone who makes a donation to the AHA Friday night will be eligible to win various prizes, including BlackFinn gift cards and a Tiffany & Co. Paloma Picasso Loving Heart Pendant.
