Couple from Georgia Held up in Parking Lot of Local Hotel

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- JSO detectives are on the hunt for an armed robber who held up a couple from Georgia at an area hotel.

Police said the couple were unloading their luggage into their car at the Embassy Suites on Baymeadows Road when a man armed with a gun came up and forced them to drive him to an ATM.

According to the police report, the man had a bandana covering his face.

The report also notes the suspect forced the husband and wife, who are from Columbus, Georgia, to drive to the Bank of America on Baymeadows.

The couple told police the suspect said he needed the money because his mother has cancer.

The suspect forced the husband to withdraw as much money as he could out of his account.

Police say the suspect made off with $600 from the ATM and $350 in cash the couple already had on them.

The suspect then forced the couple to drive him back to the hotel to drop him off.  Police say the man fled on foot.
