Jacksonville’s 4th Annual Downtown Historic Church Tour

Tour a century of sanctuaries in one afternoon at ten Downtown historic churches. Guides at each church will highlight the architectural and historical significance of the building. The tour begins and ends at the Main Library and visitors may walk or use the complimentary trolley service provided along the tour route.

Jacksonville Fashion Week Hosts Model Casting Call

Jacksonville Fashion Week (JFW), a multi-event celebration of fashion on Florida’s First Coast, is hosting a two-day model casting call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Walkers (2692 Post St.) and Thursday, Nov. 18 at The Brasserie (Beach Plaza, 1312 Beach Blvd.). JFW officials will select a total of 100-125 models to grace the catwalk at the inaugural Jacksonville Fashion Week, March 23-26, 2011.

Students Without Borders Hosts Humanitarian Awareness Event at UNF

Students Without Borders (SWOB), a humanitarian student club at the University of North Florida that focuses on impacting the local and international community, will host a humanitarian awareness event from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, at the Student Union Auditorium, Building 58W, Room 2704. This event is free and open to the public.

UNF Division of Continuing Education Hosts TV-Film Directing & Performance Workshop

The Division of Continuing Education at the University of North Florida is hosting a TV-Film Directing & Performance Workshop from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. with a bonus afternoon session from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the University Center on campus. This one-day workshop is a place where students, as well as working professionals in the television and film business, will come together to share state-of-the-art techniques and knowledge.

With a goal of searching worldwide for the next great idea for environmentally preferable office products, Staples is giving Jacksonville-area college students an opportunity to compete for a $25,000 grand prize if they submit a 1,000 word description of their idea by Dec. 23, 2010.

Through January 9 – Prehistoric Predators – Walk alongside the dinosaurs!  Encounter a soaring Pteranodon with a 23-foot wingspan, a Maiasaura mother caring for her hatchlings, a Pachycephalosaurus, Apatosaurus, Albertosaurus and more in the limited-engagement exhibit, Prehistoric Predators.  Dinosaur models are handcrafted based on fossil records and equipped with internal computers, making them look – and sound – like the magnificent beasts that once roamed Earth! 

Wednesdays – Half-Price Half Days – Beginning at noon each Wednesday when school is in session, students receive 50% off MOSH's regular admission prices. Reduced rates are $4.00 for students 3-12 and $5.00 for students 13 and over. Students under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Discount may be applied toward college students with id.

Alhambra Plans New Year's Eve Party With Patsy Cline

The new Alhambra Theatre will usher in 2011 with a New Year’s Eve Party like none other in Jacksonville.  This one-time-only event will feature the hit show, “A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline” starring Gail Bliss.  Prior to the show, guests will enjoy a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres.  A special dinner will be prepared my Executive Chef Matthew Medure.  Following the performance, guests will enjoy dancing to live music and a New Year’s champagne toast.  For those who have worked up an appetite, The Alhambra will also roll out a breakfast buffet at about 11:00 PM.
