Duval County School Board Recognitions

During the presentation portion of the monthly meeting of the Duval County School Board, Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and Board members recognized a community partner, a school and a business partner for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to Duval County Public Schools:

  • Warren Grymes, chief executive officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida, spoke on the importance of mentoring in honor of National Mentoring Month;
  • Angela Maxey, principal at Justina Road Elementary, shared some of the measures the school has taken recently to increase student gains and enhance academic achievements; and
  • Winn-Dixie was recognized for its A-Team Program. The A-Team Program was created in hopes of reducing the student drop-out rate. Through the program Winn-Dixie offers middle school students tickets to Jaguars home games as an incentive for students to excel in academics, attendance and attitude. The program also offers tickets to teachers to show appreciation for their hard work in the classroom.

Duval County Public Schools operates 172 schools and serves approximately 123,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy, and culturally diverse world.
