Chick-fil-A coming to UNF's campus

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Chick-fil-A is coming to the University of North Florida next semester, despite some students' objections.

After a heated discussion, UNF's student senate approved the move Monday night. Last week, UNF's student government sent a survey to students asking
which restaurant they wanted to welcome to campus. The majority selected
Chick-fil-A.

While some students argued for healthier food options, the loudest objections came from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

JU Orthodontists Set the Record Straight During National Orthodontic Health Month

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Orthodontists at Jacksonville University are taking time during October’s National Orthodontic Health Month to educate the public and clarify best practices for the maintenance of your smile.

Dr. Mark Alarbi, dean and program director of the Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics, said there are many myths that need to be busted regarding orthodontic care, but one of the most common misconceptions is that parents need to wait for their children to loose all of their baby teeth before evaluating the need for braces.

Apparent meth lab bust near St. Augustine Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspected meth lab in the 3700 block of Pineview Circle. That's near St. Augustine Road and Emerson Street.

Officers responded Sunday afternoon to a 911 call from a woman who reported a domestic violence situation, according to police.

When officers arrived on scene at 2:15 p.m. they found the suspect and much more.

"Sure enough, someone matching the description came running out and they took him into custody," said Office Lt. Jimmy Judge with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. "He left the door open and they could see in the house, in plain view, what they described as a science experiment. And they knew from experience that it's most likely going to be a meth lab."

The suspect was taken into custody by police.

As a precaution, police evacuated nearby homes.

UNF now part of same sex marriage Chick-fil-A debate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The politics of same sex marriage and the expressed position of the CEO of Chick-fil-A have now reached the campus of UNF and it is stirring a debate

The student government association wants to bring Chick-fil-A and Papa John's eateries to the campus, and Chick-fil-A is getting the most attention.

"Our goal is to give the students what they want," said Mike Naughton.

Naughton is vice president of the SGA and is aware of the storm brewing over its decision.

"We're really just trying to work to make the Osprey experience better," he said.

UNF Pride Club, a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender organization, is opposed to the Chick-fil-A on campus. Mariah Moss is President and she's pushing back

"There are a lot of things I don't agree with in terms of Chick-fil-A's stance on gay marriage and gender discrimination," she said, "and I just feel the students of UNF are not aware."
